Popped over to Serene Centre and picked up Guitar Hero World Tour (aka Guitar Hero 4) to accompany my newly acquired Playstation 3 on New Year’s eve. To cut the long story short, I have been thinking of getting this game for a few weeks and am glad I finally got it over and done with. However, instead of committing to an entire rock band set which includes a guitar, a drum set and a microphone, I just stuck with the guitar for economical reasons. Well, that and the fact that Lyn (my boo) will totally freak out if she discovers an entire set taking up our precious room space.
I was initally skeptical about how I may fair given that my hand-eye coordination is not exactly something to shout about, but I decided to give the ‘ol easy option a shot. As the option suggest, easy was really a breeze and I was in no time jamming to popular tunes including Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer, Blondie’s One Way or Another and Obstacle 1 by Interpol. Guitar Hero World Tour also introduces a new slider function on the guitar’s fret that allows you to do some tapping instead of using the touchpads while strumming (haven’t really figure that part out yet).
As a GH (Guitar Hero) noob, it is going to take me a while before I can start hammering 5 touchpads with confidence. But hey, every single moment is extremely enjoyable and I am really looking forward to hitting the expert level some day. Until then, I am slowly going to upgrade myself and unlock more songs. Rock on!!

I still don’t think I understand Guitar Hero … AIUI it takes a lot of practice and hard work to really master it. If it were me, I’d sooner put all that time into learning how to play a real guitar.
Please understand, that’s not a criticism, I’m just confused … and clearly, I’m in the wrong since millions of them have been sold. I’ve obviously just missed the boat on this one.
Hey, I’ve read a lot about Guitar Hero from various blogs. Hope to get to see you play in person. Have Lyn tried it yet?
Rachel: Yeah I kinda know what you mean. To be honest, GH is a real breeze especially for the easy option. It gave me this rock star experience within a few tries, something that learning to play guitar from scratch wouldn’t have given me. That and I could rock to the tunes of popular songs and bands…and the concert crowd…wow!!
That and also the cost factor. A real guitar would cost more than the game and wireless guitar. In addition, there is also the lessons and time spent. Having said that, if you want the real guitar experience, GH is not the option, its just a game..a really good one
Hillary: Quite fun lah and pretty addictive man. Unfortunately, Lyn has never been interested in games and hence no GH experience for her…heheh…
She has to leave our room to study in another whenever I play GH though. Kinda disruptive for her with me shaking my bum while rocking in my shirt and boxers (ala GH style)…yes I’m vain like that
