Going pet friendly

Yeah I am kinda pissed off. Lyn (my boo) and I were turned away at a cafe in Holland Village last week because we brought our two dogs along. Considering that I have never been a dog owner, I was rudely awakened and the next thing I knew…I left in the half with half a mind to flick them.

After much research online, I learnt that restaurant owners need to get a permit from the government to allow pets into their restaurants/cafes. And what caught me by surprise is that the agency in charge of approving such permits belong to my statutory board under my ministry. I guess this is probably one of those low key information that didn’t get much media attention which might have attributed to my ignorance. Oh well…

Still in the subject on my quest to bring our dogs to pet friendly eating establishments, I surfed further online and picked up some places that not only allow dogs into their areas to eat but serve pet food as well. So the very next day, we brought them to Urban Pooch at Balestier for some outdoor fun and were so impressed that we are seriously considering bringing them there on a weekly basis.

Just an FYI for pet owners. If you are looking for a list on where to bring your dogs and not be turned away by those damned restaurant/cafe Nazis…check out this list I picked up from GGGRRR. Let me know if this needs updating yah?

  • The restaurant owner must have been a dog in a manger who doggedly insisted on you leaving. Oh well, sometimes it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie. Which come to think of it, leading a dog’s life might not be so bad after all. Next time, if anyone stops you from bringing your pet in, you should Hound them!

  • speaking of being turned away…jus a month ago, my fren brought her 3 doggies to sentosa km8 beach, in the end the coastguard came to us reluntantly (as he says he is also a dogowner), told us we have keep the lease on the doggies, cause some people went to him and complain about the doggies, but the doggies were good and they didnt disturb others. in the end we stayed there for merely half an hour and had to packed up, seriously the coastguard looked very shy and embarrassed as he was doing his job. thanks to those ppl who make a fuss over dogs who didnt even cross their path!

  • jaynatic: Hi and thanks for reading my site. Yeah it is quite a pain with non dog owners complaining. I do agree that they are concerned with their safety but seriously..I think they are just whining most of the time. In fact the list above is pretty outdated already. Some of the places have banned dogs…aye!!

  • gggrrr.com has closed down, it’s a broken link now.

There’s a more comprehensive list at Pets Channel http://www.petschannel.com/forum/?page=topic&topicID=3914&start=lastpage forum

  • Shrek: oh, its an old post so not surprised that the site is down. Let me go find the updated list and thanks… ;)

  • Hey, awesome listing man! Just wanted to point out BArk Cafe is out for dog owners, they got complained by some ppl to the authorities and blah blah…basically they dont have a permit anymore and r not allowing dogs….pretty sad really.. used to love the place!

  • ZArk: Thanks man..it was an old list. Much have changed and let’s say more and more places are becoming less pet friendly. Too bad for dog owners like us me thinks.. :(

  • stay away from la forketta’s at dempsey – we had a very unpleasant experience there… our dog is a tiny pooch INSIDE a pram, no nuisance at all to anyone, AND the place was EMPTY with no other diners outside where we were sitting on a WEEKDAY at 2pm! but we were told to “no dogs allowed” and treated like criminals – they didnt tell us until AFTER our pellegrino water arrived and they then stood there to watch us drink our water plus they made us pay for the water!!! how stupid is that?
