Woah, brudder Walter actually beat me to it and posted an article about it already. Firstly, many thanks to my friend Howard Shaw and the Singapore Environment Council for their invitation, I am feeling the love here. Yesterday, Brudder Walter, his wife Tina and a number of my colleagues had the privilege to catch the premiere of a documentary film on shark preservation.
Crossing over 15 countries over 5 years, Rob Stewart’s production Sharkwater takes us through the journey of his love for sharks leading to an adventure in discovering the multi-billion dollar shark fin trade setting off a chain of events that has to be seen to be believed. Produced in high definition, the documentary film includes stunning underwater videography so beautiful, I am seriously considering taking up scuba diving just to witness the ocean in its glory.
However, beauty aside, the film also captures the greed and merciless killings of mankind from corrupted government to mafia rings, as the sharks were hunted, sliced off their fins and thrown back to the ocean and left to die…all just for money. Let’s just say that film has changed the way I look at sharks and that bowl of sharks fin.
Although you can learn more about the shark finning facts here, I believe watching it will be a real eye opener for you. You can catch it at the sneaks today at Shaw Cinemas or when it is released on 17 Jan 2008.

You might run into fiendish traditional cina relatives if you don’t have this fin-nish dish at your wedding banquet.
There’s always fishmaw..they won’t know the difference.
Singaporeans are one of the world’s biggest consumers of sharks fin.
Fuck yall understand?
Shark’s fin soup is just for bragging rights. I think eating dog meat is better. Considering 9000 abandoned pets in singapore every year, eating them will alleviate their suffering. Things that make sense usually do not sit well with people.
Thanks once again for the kind invitation and glad that you are also hopping onto the “Sea Shepherd” so to speak. Somehow green and environmental issues strike a deep chord with me and I find blogging about them a good way to get the messages across. Am seriously considering joining Singapore Environment Council or other green groups but got to see what’s the commitment like though. Any idea?
KP: I don’t really care man..I am never really that big on sharks fin anymore tho..keke…
Dear sister: yeah man..fish maw..tasted it before and didn’t know that it was fish maw until I read the menu..keke..
KC: eh…not really..I am not really game for dog food..too heaty man..keke..
but yeah..like you said..bragging rights. I did rem we did talk about eating sharks fin onces and you said there is absolutely no taste. And yeah..I agree with you on that.
The abandon pets part is a real shame ah?
Brudder Walter: Great to have met up with you again and I am glad you have decided on pushing away that bowl of sharks fin soup..keke…We are both a part of the “Sea Shepard – Land edition” I think…
Actually I think there are some things we can do with social media and volunteerism and especially blogging about the movie. Maybe I can hook us up with Howard and we see where we can go from there? As on joining SEC..not sure man..you mean as in a job?
Haha…. not really joining SEC as a job but maybe we can see what can be done social media wise. Being more active does sound exciting and fulfilling too, but I have to be mindful about time commitments too. The other guy whom I owe a lot too is Sivasothi, an ardent naturalist and blogger extraordinaire.
Brudder Walter: oh yeah..keke..sure man..lemme see if I can hook us up and we see where we can go from there lor
