Alrightee, for those pervs out there (you know who you are)…its not what you think…its the other package. I received this package in a nice FedEx box upon returning to my cubicle after my meeting this afternoon…all thanks to Lyn (my boo)
. Happy 31st birthday to me…well..tomorrow anyways…

Cheese cake from Tio Glutton and a nice Hugo Boss card holder
Oh eh, Lyn told me not to brag/blog about this…but seriously, I don’t get packages like this everyday…so how can I not?
One thing I love about Gizmodo is the nice mix of humour and technology in their articles. So imagine how much I cracked up when they published a blog entry on how passengers shouldn’t be doing the naughty naughty when flying in the new SQ A380 Air Bus. And this rule also extends to the ones in the “super-first-class” private suites, which includes a full-sized double bed with a real mattress…and a door. How these flight attendants are able to see you whipping out your sha boink boink in all that privacy, I will never find out. You maybe flying but you ain’t getting into the mile high club.
Its really interesting to stereotypically compare the conservative Asian mind and the liberal Western ones. Quote from the blog entry: “So they’ll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne — and then say you can’t do what comes naturally?” asked Tony Elwood, a 76-year-old passenger who booked the suite with his wife, Julie. “Seems a bit strange.”

If you ask me, I say bring the the champagne and change the sheets.
Since my early days, I have never considered myself as a very charitable person. I don’t often donate to flag days (mostly because I find them irritating) and I frown at those typical charity events on TV – you know, the ones inviting celebrities to do stupid human tricks in a bid to touch the hearts of viewers so they will pick up the phone and pledge an amount. That and a whole lot of other charity mambo jambo I rarely pay a mind to.
But woah, hear me out. I do try to do something once in a while…depending on how successful it is to get my sorry ass out of the bed. I have volunteered (once) in an old folks home and took them to watch a Duck Race a few years back. Heck, there was a time I even committed two years (or more) of my alternate Sundays to help counsel at the Reformative Training Centre…but that was a long time ago. Taking a look back at what I have done, I guess I am not really that proud to say I did my part for the community. All these efforts, although have been encouraging (I think), are rather inconsistent.
But if there is one thing I can do and have been doing consistently, is to get a yearly iWish Card from a nice visually impaired telemarketer, Ms Ong Lay Wah. Armed with nothing but a wonderful personality (on phone), Ms Ong would contact me every year without fail during this period of time, to ask if I would like to sign on for another year of the iWish Card and enjoy its privileges. Of course I would..
. I believed it was since 2003 when I got her first call and since then every year, I would invite her to call me back the next time my card expires.

My iWish Card
The iWish Card is basically your everyday privilege card with nice offers from spas to restaurants and shopping. Backed by ServeHope, selling the iWish Card via the telephone would allow the physical and/or visually impaired to have financial independence and more job creation. Yeah, you can read more from their website.
Alrightee, after typing a bunch of paragraphs on me and charity, I kinda forgot where I am getting at with this article. Think it comes with age, especially when I am turning a year older in two days time (hint hint). And no no no..I am not looking for a pat on the back or have my karma points increased (well…maybe), it is something personal for me. Anyhoo, if you guys every want to help out a little for just $68 or $88 (heard the price just went up) a year. Go give the nice people at ServeHope a call. You will get to enjoy the discounts from the cards anyways

My colleague, Mr New York and I have been recently converted fans of the US version of The Office after finishing up on the final episodes from season 2 (yeah…I know…we’re about 2 seasons late). Day in and day out, fellow colleagues can always catch the both of us gossiping about various episode scenes and speculating what may happen in future episodes. Think of it as how girls gossip about Korean dramas…yeah…its that bad…cept our conversation topics are more..ahem..MANLY!!
So erm..yeah…moving on, I received a Wall Street Journal news article yesterday morning from Mr New York on “The Office Convention” held in Scranton, PA (yeah, it is a real place). To cut the long story short, it is basically a weekend party organised by the cast and people behind The Office for residents in Scranton starting today. You can read more about it from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette (I can’t republish the Wall Street Journal article).

As a new fan of the office, Mr New York and I agreed that throwing such a party, especially in an area related to the series is a pretty good idea. Most of the tickets are sold out though, so you can see how much The Office means to the fans and the people from Scranton. Why can’t we get such good stuffs in Singapore?
Popped over to meet up with my vendor at Telok Ayer Street this morning and noticed these two old skool Macs sitting on the floor in the conference room.

Woah, I have always thought these babies are only available at the Apple museum (if any)
. Another scene which part amazes and part pissed me off is a PS2 and an Xbox 360 stashed in a corner of the room…collecting dust. I was too heartbroken to take photos of that…
. Maybe I should ask them if I could ‘permanently borrow’ them eh?
With the close of the Formula 1 season for the year and Ferrari taking 1st position in both the Constructor and Driver standings, I guess its time the team can kick back, relax and take things a little slower. And there is no better (and slower) way to do all that than with Ferrari’s new limited edition vehicle, the Segway PT (Personal Transporter) i2.

The Segway PT i2 is not only environmentally friendly, reason being that it runs on electricity, but it also powers itself smoothly up and down stairs and curbs, and keeps you in control as it handles steep grades. Boasting of a whopping 24 miles/38 km or up to 480 city blocks on a single charge, spectators of the Segway F1 race (if any) may see drivers visiting the pit stop a little more than the usual two times. So if you have an extra €8,429 or $12,000 to blow but can’t afford a Ferrari car, the Segway is your other option
.

Oh and eh…congrats Kimi, you lucky bastard…many have been praying for you
Photos of the F1 Segway and Kimi shamelessly taken from the Ferrari Store and Formula 1 website.
So erm…yeah, I forgot my sister’s birthday. As much as I would love to simply ignore her endless whining of how ‘buay kao brudder’ I am and how important family is compared with friends, work, technology (HEY!! Leave technology alone!!) and a whole laundry list of things I like..well..I can’t. There is much love in the family.
Trying to climb my way back into her ‘Circle of Much Love (dot com)’, I decided to take on her request (if not demand) and put up an entry about her…she asked for something nice. In her email to me she added:
“cos im shameless like that.
better be a nice post with nothing but nice things to
say abt me…hmfph!”
How can I refuse such a request…especially after her recent bad juju encounter and her hospitalised teddy bear. Bet she can’t stomach anymore pain yeah? So I called the Rolling Stone magazine and they were more than happy to publish a special issue on love in the family.

Coming to your local news stands in 2076.
Happy Birthday Fel!!
Judging from the number of posts I have been putting up recently, I guess one would realise that I have not been active for a while now. But before you begin crafting stories about my cure from the blog bug or how I have finally lost my love for the Web 2.0 and other nasty nasty thoughts, let me be the first to say this…It Ain’t Over!!
The cause of infrequent updates is…well…workload. Yeap, the year end has always been a busy period for my organisation with major events and other huge projects. These are the times fellow colleagues would still be receiving work emails from me at 1 to 2am (or even later) chasing them for reports, updates, information, etc…and then packaging them nicely in a submission format for my senior managements’ approval. Ah yes…the life of a busy civil servant. So yeah…what sits between me and frequent, maybe daily updates right now, is a pile (a huge pile) of work.
Blogging aside, I didn’t even have the time to read other fellow bloggers’ blogs even after cutting my reading work flow significantly by subscribing to their articles. Problem is that I can’t find the time to read personal emails, log into facebook (which I am still trying to figure out what the heck is so cool about it) and do other personal stuffs, let alone firing up the ‘ol Google Reader and reading about the ongoings of my friends’ life and thoughts. Heck, I didn’t even have the time to Twitter. So fellow blogging friends, I apologise for not keeping up to date with you.
But fret not my friends. It won’t be long before I start bombarding my blog with regular updates again. Until then, it is work, work and lots of work…or till I die from it. I promise to put up more entries occasionally. Take care ya’ll…see you soon…real soon…
About a few months ago, I signed up to Nuffnang, dubbed as Asia’s first blog advertising community in a bid to generate some extra cash. My plan for using blog advertising is not to use the money earned to fund the jBlog or to get stuffs I don’t need (or want), but rather to make something good out of my blog and donate all proceeds to some charitable organisation (haven’t really figured out which one yet). Let’s just say I am trying to be useful
So as the months passed, it seemed that Nuffnang might have somehow forgotten about me. My blog was not getting any advertisements and I felt somewhat cheated. The space I had initially allocated for the Nuffnang generated advertisements looked like it was allocated for just Nuffnang advertisements alone, calling for more bloggers to sign up to their site…that is something I don’t get paid for
.
But I guess my patience did pay off and the phase ‘all things come to he who waits’ finally came to pass (for me) as I received an email from Nuffnang on Friday night with exciting news. I got ads…finally. Both the Singapore Tourism Board and Nike will be advertising on my blog from 21 Oct to 27 Oct and 28 Oct to 3 Nov respectively. (Note to fellow gahmen bloggers: Yup, STB is using new media to advertise…I think…).
I can’t tell you how excited I am since I have never been endorsed or ‘used’ to advertise a product or services before…well…kinda. But I guess this one will go into my book of jBlog milestones (amongst many other not so significant ones I have been collecting these few months). So stay tuned, I am looking forward to the 27th and see what STB is up to
.
